Getting App Access
Upon first launch, you’ll need to complete the authentication process:
- Initial Access Screen: The app will display an error message indicating you don’t have access. This is the expected behavior for new research users.
- Obtaining Your Device Key: A “Unique Identification Key” will appear on your screen. This alphanumeric string is specific to your device and necessary for authorization.
- Requesting Access: Email your Unique Identification Key to support@ventriject.com along with:
- Your full name and institutional affiliation
- Study title
- Lead researcher/study coordinator (the person responsible for overseeing the study and maintaining communication with VentriJect)
- Account Setup: Within 1-2 business days, you’ll receive an email from noreply@ventriject.io with instructions for password creation. Complete this process even though this password isn’t currently used for app login.
- Getting Started: You’ll receive a separate confirmation when access has been granted. At this point, relaunch the app to begin using it for your research.
Conducting the measurment
Taking accurate VO₂max measurements requires a standardized four-step process, illustrated below with visual guidance. Before beginning, ensure your subject is in a supine position and is rested. Following this approach ensures consistent, high-quality data for your clinical assessments or research protocols.
Step 1 : Attach fresh Seismofit® Patch to the bottom of the Sensor
Step 2: Place the Seismofit® Sensor on the lower third of the sternum. Make sure no clothing is touching the Sensor.

Step 3: Enter the subjects weight, height and age.

Step 4: Start the recording. Make sure that during the recording the subject neither moves nor talks.

Retrieving Measurement Results
When a measurement is completed, the app generates a Unique Recording Identification code. This code contains critical information about your measurement:
- Record only the eight characters that appear before the hyphen in the ID
- This eight-character code is your essential reference for locating this specific recording in our database
You can request a PDF report immediately after completing each measurement. Alternatively, you can contact support@ventriject.com to have PDF reports automatically generated for all your measurements. This automatic PDF generation can be activated as a standard feature for your account, eliminating the need to request reports individually.
The VO₂Max result is hidden by default in the Research App to support various study designs:
- Complete the full measurement process
- On the results screen, scroll down to reveal the VO₂Max analysis section
- Document this value according to your established research protocol

Handling Measurement Data
PDF Reports
The Research App can generate automated PDF reports of measurements:
- Contact support@ventriject.com to activate this feature for your account
- Once activated, PDF reports will be generated automatically
- Important: PDF reports do not display the recording ID – you’ll need to match reports to subjects using time stamps
Recording ID & Results Information in App:
- Recording IDs and VO₂max results can be handled in several ways
- You can record values and IDs however works best for your process
- For blinded analysis, you can record only the measurement ID without seeing results
- The first 8 characters before the hyphen in the measurement ID are crucial if you’ll need to:
- Request data extraction from VentriJect support later
- Submit inquiries about specific measurements
- VentriJect support can assist with data extraction at any point (available once or twice during your study)
- Time stamps can also help match PDF reports with subject records, though this is less precise than using IDs
- Recording IDs is optional if you’re only interested in the immediate results and won’t need support with specific measurements
Measurement Error Messages
When taking a measurement with your Seismofit® Sensor, you might see an error message if something needs to be adjusted. Each error message indicates a specific issue that needs to be addressed to get an accurate measurement. It’s important to know that measurements resulting in error messages are not billed. You can freely retry your measurement after addressing the issue indicated by the error message.
Data Connection Error
When you see a Data Connection Error, it means your measurement couldn’t be sent to our servers due to internet connection issues. Unfortunately, when this error occurs, the measurement data cannot be recovered. This means you’ll need to perform a new measurement once you have a stable internet connection.
Before starting a new measurement, take a moment to check your internet connection. You can test it by trying to load a website on your phone. If your connection seems unstable, you might want to:
- Switch between WiFi and mobile data to see which provides a better connection
- Move to an area with better signal strength
- If you’re using WiFi, consider restarting your router
- Wait until you have access to a more stable internet connection
Once you’ve confirmed you have a reliable internet connection, you can proceed with taking a new measurement. This will ensure your data can be properly transmitted to our servers for analysis.
In some rare cases, internet traffic to our servers can be blocked by your internal firewalls / internet setup. If you can access websites on your phone, but you cannot log in to the VentriJect App, there is a high chance that our servers are blocked. Please contact your IT / Network Administrator, to resolve this issue. If the IT / Network Administrator needs additional information, they can reach out to support@ventriject.com.
Heart Rate Out of Bounds
Your measurement shows this error when the detected heart rate falls outside the normal resting range of 30-100 beats per minute. To ensure accurate VO₂max estimation, the measurement needs to be taken when the person is truly at rest.
To resolve this:
- Have the person rest quietly for at least 5 minutes before measuring
- Avoid taking measurements after:
- Physical activity
- Eating or drinking
- Walking or climbing stairs
- Ensure the environment is calm and quiet
- Try the measurement again after the rest period
No Heartbeat Signal Detected
This error indicates that the sensor cannot detect a clear heartbeat signal. The recording might be too short, or there might be an issue with how the sensor is attached.
To resolve this:
- Ensure the patches are firmly attached to clean, dry skin
- Press gently around the edges of the patches to secure them
- Keep the person still during the measurement
- Allow the full recommended recording time to complete
Signal Too Noisy
When you encounter this error, it means the sensor is detecting excessive signal interference. Similar to how background noise can make a conversation difficult to hear, any movement of the patient or external interference can prevent the sensor from obtaining a clear reading. This includes contact between the sensor and the patient’s clothing.
To resolve this:
- Ensure the person lies completely still
- Make sure patients clothing is not touching the sensor
- Keep electronic devices away from the measurement area
- Check that the patches are making good contact
- Maintain calm, regular breathing
Subject Not in Supine Position
This error appears when the sensor detects that the person isn’t lying flat on their back. The correct position is essential for accurate measurements.
To resolve this:
- Have the person lie completely flat on their back
- Use a firm, flat surface
- Ensure the upper body isn’t elevated
- Maintain this position throughout the measurement
No Heart Rate Detected
This error means that while the sensor detected some signal, the estimation algorithm could not determine a stable heart rate pattern.
To resolve this:
- Ensure the person is relaxed and breathing normally
- Check that the patches are properly attached
- Keep the environment calm and quiet
- Try again after a few minutes of rest
VO₂max Out of Bounds
This error typically appears when there’s a mismatch in the entered height and weight data. However, in some cases, it might appear even when all data is entered correctly, particularly for individuals with a higher body mass index.
To resolve this:
- First, double-check the height and weight entries:
- Ensure the values haven’t been switched
- Verify the units are correct
- Make sure there are no typing errors
- If all the data is correct and you still see this error, please contact our support team with the time of the measurement.
Internal Algorithm Error
This is a general error that occurs when the analysis system encounters an unexpected issue.
To resolve this:
- End the current measurement
- Close and reopen the app
- Try a new measurement
- If the error persists, contact support
